Differin Gel is a topical medication that resembles vitamin A and is applied directly to the skin surface. It aids in skin renewal and is prescribed for treating severe acne in individuals who are at least 12 years old. The gel functions by reducing the formation of acne. Differin may also be utilized for other purposes not specified in this medication guide.
Avoid applying Differin Gel to your eyes, the folds of your nose, or your lips. If contact occurs, rinse the affected area with water. Do not apply Differin Gel to sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, irritated, or broken skin. It is also advisable to refrain from using Differin Gel on wounds or eczema-affected areas. Wait until these conditions have resolved before applying the gel.
Refrain from using skin care products containing alpha hydroxy or glycolic acid while using Differin Gel. It is also best to avoid products that may irritate the skin, such as aggressive soaps, shampoos, cleansers, hair dyes, depilatories, or products containing alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime. Do not combine Differin Gel with other topical medications unless directed by your doctor. Protect yourself from sunlight or artificial UV rays (such as sunlamps or tanning beds), as Differin Gel may increase skin sensitivity to sunlight and lead to sunburn. If you need to go outdoors, use a sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and wear protective clothing.
Do not apply Differin Gel if you have an allergy to Adapalene.
This medication is classified as FDA pregnancy category C. Differin Gel may pose risks to an unborn child. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant while undergoing treatment. It is unclear whether adapalene passes into breast milk or could affect a nursing infant. Do not use Differin Gel without consulting your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
